By Chris Griffin
In memory of Kobe Bryant
Premise/synopsis
In this semi biographical poem, Basketball Picked Me follows how a young man’s philosophy about his aspirations/game in basketball shapes his overall outlook on life. Poem is inspired by the career of late NBA player Kobe Bryant.
Once again the basketball picked me.
I felt like Kobe hitting the game winning three.
The crowd goes crazy and the camera’s run to me.
I'm raining down shots, O it’s getting hot.
I was destined from the very start.
I came out of the womb already a superstar.
I learned to play the game and gain some heart.
Heart is what has made me come so far.
The sweat, the tears, and blood drive me insane.
In the gym every night knocking down midrange.
That’s how I got that ice here in my veins.
That’s why I play with a lot of rage.
So long as I continue to play basketball for free.
So long I say that basketball picked me.
